Concrete patios are one of the most requested projects we do in Middle Tennessee. People want outdoor space that holds up — not wood decking that rots or pavers that shift and grow weeds. Here’s what a concrete patio costs in Tennessee and what you should know before you hire anyone.
Concrete Patio Costs in Tennessee
Expect to pay $6–$15 per square foot for a concrete patio in Tennessee, depending on size and finish. Plain broom-finished concrete is the most affordable; stamped concrete with color runs higher. Here are typical price ranges:
| Patio Type | Cost Per Sq Ft | 300 Sq Ft Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Broom-Finished Concrete | $6–$8 | $1,800–$2,400 |
| Exposed Aggregate | $8–$10 | $2,400–$3,000 |
| Stamped Concrete | $10–$15 | $3,000–$4,500 |
| Stained/Colored Concrete | $8–$12 | $2,400–$3,600 |
A typical backyard patio in the Lebanon/Mt. Juliet area is 200–400 square feet. Larger patios with outdoor kitchen areas or complex shapes can run well past $10,000 for stamped work.
What Affects the Price
Size and Shape
Square and rectangular patios are the most straightforward pour and generally the most affordable. Curves, angles, and insets require more forming work and add to labor cost. For a simple rectangular patio, expect the lower end of those ranges. Complex layouts push toward the higher end.
Finish
Stamped concrete is the most popular upgrade we get asked about. It can look like flagstone, slate, brick, or wood — and it holds up a lot better than the real thing in most cases. The price premium is real, but so is the difference in appearance. If you’re going to use the patio a lot and want it to look great for 20+ years, it’s worth considering.
Site Conditions
Access matters — if our trucks can’t get close, we’re moving concrete by hand, which takes longer. Sloped yards also require more work for proper grading and drainage. Patios need a slight slope (about 1/8″ per foot) away from the house to keep water from pooling against your foundation. We always build this in; not every contractor does.
Sealer
A quality concrete sealer extends the life of your patio significantly, especially for stamped or colored work. We include sealer on stamped and stained projects. For plain concrete, sealing is optional but we recommend it. Budget $0.50–$1.50/sq ft for sealer if it’s not included in your quote.
Concrete vs. Pavers vs. Wood Deck: What’s the Best Value?
Pavers look great and are easy to repair, but they shift over time in Tennessee’s clay soil, and the gaps fill with weeds. Expect to spend $15–$25/sq ft for quality paver installation. Wood decks are expensive to maintain — staining, sealing, board replacement — and they don’t last as long. Concrete sits in the middle on initial cost and at the top for longevity and low maintenance. For most homeowners in Middle Tennessee, concrete is the smart call.
How Long Does a Concrete Patio Last?
25–40 years if it’s poured correctly. The main enemies of concrete in Tennessee are poor drainage (water getting under the slab), tree roots, and Tennessee’s freeze-thaw cycles. None of these are serious problems if the patio was built right to begin with.
Can You Pour Concrete Over an Existing Patio?
Sometimes. If the existing slab is structurally sound — no heaving, no major cracks, firmly bonded to the ground — a concrete overlay can be a cost-effective refresh at $3–$7/sq ft. If the old slab is failing, you’re better off breaking it out and starting fresh. We’ll tell you honestly which situation you’re in when we come out to look at your project.
