How Much Does a Concrete Sidewalk Cost in Tennessee? (2025 Guide)

We pour a lot of sidewalks and walkways in Middle Tennessee — front entries, garden paths, side-yard access walks, you name it. The question we hear most is simply: what’s it going to cost? Here’s what we actually charge and what affects the price.

Concrete Sidewalk Costs in Tennessee

Concrete sidewalks in Tennessee typically cost $7–$12 per square foot installed. A standard 4-foot-wide front walk running 20 feet (80 sq ft) runs $560–$960. A longer or wider walkway system — say 200 sq ft — runs $1,400–$2,400 for plain concrete.

Sidewalk TypeCost Per Sq Ft80 Sq Ft Estimate
Plain Broom Finish$7–$9$560–$720
Exposed Aggregate$9–$11$720–$880
Stamped/Decorative$11–$15$880–$1,200
Colored Concrete$9–$12$720–$960

What Affects the Price

Length and Width

Wider walks cost more per linear foot. A standard 4-foot walk is the minimum for comfortable two-way foot traffic; 5 feet is more comfortable; 6 feet is common for front entries with landscaping on both sides. Per-foot costs drop on longer projects.

Thickness

Residential sidewalks are typically poured 4 inches thick. If you have a vehicle crossing the walk (like a shared driveway apron), we’ll pour 5–6 inches in that section. Thicker concrete in high-load areas is the right call — the cost difference is minimal.

Curves and Shapes

Straight sidewalks are the most efficient pour. Curved walkways with organic shapes require more form work and add $1–$2/sq ft to the cost. They look great in landscape-heavy yards, but budget for the extra labor.

Site Conditions

Rocky ground, slopes, or areas that need significant grading before pouring all add to the cost. If tree roots are nearby, we’ll discuss options — roots and concrete are a bad long-term combination if not addressed at installation.

How Long Does a Concrete Sidewalk Last?

A properly poured concrete sidewalk in Tennessee lasts 25–40 years. The biggest threat is tree roots — they’ll crack any sidewalk eventually if planted close enough. The second biggest threat is Tennessee clay expanding and contracting under the slab. Good base prep (compacted gravel) dramatically reduces movement-related cracking.

Concrete vs. Pavers for Walkways

Pavers look great and are easier to repair section by section. But they shift in Tennessee clay, and the joints fill with weeds over time. Concrete is one solid surface — no shifting, no joints, lower maintenance over the years. Cost-wise, concrete is typically $3–$8/sq ft less than paver installation for comparable quality. For most residential walkways, concrete is the better value.
